- 500 gm beef ground
- 5 tbsp vegetable oil divided
- 2 tbsp bread crumps
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon chili paste
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 teaspoon suger
- 1 medium onion sliced
- 1/2 cup thinly sliced scallions white and light green parts only

To prepare the caramelized onion; In a pan over medium heat, add 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and when the oil is shimmering, add the onion slices and stir to coat the onions with the oil. Lower the heat and spread the onions out evenly over the pan and let cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar and let cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the onion slices are tender and caramelized.

to prepare the burger; In a large bowl, mix the beef, scallions, 1 tbsp of vegetable oil, chili paste, salt, pepper, paprika, beaten egg and bread crumbs.

Form 8 patties of equal size, each about 1.5 cm thick. Refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

In a pan over medium heat, add 3 tbsp of vegetable oil and then add the burger patties. Cook the patties for 3-5 minutes on each side until cooked and slightly grilled then set aside to rest.

In the same pan after removing the burgers, add the buns and toast them for 2 minutes. Remove from the pan and put a layer of ketchup and mayonnaise.

Build each burger on the toasted bun then add the caramelized onion on top. Serve.
